The Sicence of Getting Rich is one of the oldest books that talked about mindsets of getting rich.

My understanding is that there are two kinds of riches, having a lot of money or having a fulfilled life. The Science of Getting Rich is about the latter. It is about having a mindset to create abundance of everything and unlimited opportunities. The former type of rich is based on competition, the kind and it doesn't last.

If it is the first book of getting rich you ever read you will find the book does not talk about anything tangible. No practical examples or step-by-step plans of how you can get rich. I felt somewhat frustrated. Instead the book tells you about the “formless substance” and how can you form everything you want by shaping the “formless substance” with your thinking. Think, not hope, and think in detail of what you want and what you want to come to you. Don't spend your thoughts on potential failures, things do not work. Don’t spend your time thinking about the past and the future. Focused out right now and focus on things you can control. To reach your goal, you need to think we can win, you need to think great a deeply, think the abundance, focus on what you won, with determination and perseverance.

While those ideas are quite abstract, I find the book more meaningful when I connected it to other getting rich or motivational books, such as Rich dad poor dad, biographies of other successful people, the millionaire next-door, etc. This book seems to offer an abstract essence of getting rich that runs through many other books of getting rich. While other books offer much more specific and practical solution and suggestions.

My favorite quote is “By thought, the thing you want is brought to you; by action, you receive it.”

I want to make one comment on thinking because the book talked a lot about thinking. We often confused “thinking”, “dreaming” and “hoping”. By thinking, the author does not mean to dreaming or hoping. For example, instead of wishing or hoping to get a BMW for Christmas, one would start to visualize the entire process of how he can get a BMB for Christmas, such as a reward, as a gift, or found a good deal. Then by taking actions, he would go out to talk to people, talk to the dealers. And the BMW will find a way to get into his or her garage by Christmas.
